Life at LoC after ceasefire: When guns fall silent and development picks pace...

Imran Khan, a resident of the Balakot block, was unsure if he would ever stand up on his feet again.

Soon after the ceasefire, there were reports that some of the terror hideouts and launch pads were discontinued but they are once again active. Officials said infiltration attempts have not stopped.

India Today visited a forward location in the Poonch sector and did a ground reality check.

Over the last one month, when the guns were silent, terrorist training camps have been active and groups of terrorists have gathered across the LoC, sources said.

Peace after bloodshed over 2 years

Last year was the worst in 17 years as ceasefire violations jumped to 4700.

From August 2019 to December 2020, a period of 17 months accounted for 80 per cent of the ceasefire violations in the last two years.

The LoC had been on the edge since the beginning of 2019 after Indian Air Force carried out airstrikes at a terror camp in Balakot in Pakistan in February last year following the Pulwama suicide bombing in Kashmir that killed 40 Indian soldiers from the Central Reserve Police Force.
