 PM Modi to hold public meeting at BHU, inaugurate projects during Varanasi visit on Thursday...



Prime Minister Narendra Modi is slated to visit his parliamentary constituency of Varanasi on Thursday. The visit comes at a time of bustling political activity in the state ahead of the 2022 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections.

According to a press statement by the PMO, the Prime Minister will arrive in Varanasi at 12.15 pm and spend five hours in his parliamentary constituency. He will also meet with local officials to review Covid-19 preparedness before holding a public meeting of as many as 6,000 people on the Banaras Hindu University (BHU) grounds.

On Tuesday, UP CM Yogi Adityanath reviewed arrangements in Varanasi ahead of PM Modi's visit. The chief minister also held a meeting in this regard with senior officials at the Circuit House.

CM Adityanath instructed officials to ensure cleanliness and enforcement of the plastic ban during the Prime Minister's visit. Traffic should not come to a standstill causing inconvenience to the locals due to PM Modi's visit, the Chief Minister told officials.He also directed officials concerned to make necessary arrangements for checking the temperature of those who arrive at BHU to attend the Prime Minister's public meeting.

During his visit to Varanasi on Thursday, PM Modi will inaugurate a number of projects with an estimated worth of Rs 744 crores. These projects include:

  • 100-bed Model Maternal and Child Health (MCH) wing at Banaras Hindu University (BHU)
  • Multi-level parking at Godauliya
  • Ro-Ro vessels on the river Ganga to boost tourism
  • Three-lane flyover on the Varanasi-Ghazipur Highway
  • Rudrakash, an International Cooperation and Convention Centre, constructed with assistance from Japan

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will also lay the foundation stone for projects worth an estimated Rs 839 crore. These projects include:

  • Centre for Skill and Technical Support of Central Institute of Petrochemical Engineering and Technology (CIPET)
  • As many as 143 rural projects under Jal Jeevan Mission
  • Mango and vegetable integrated packing house in Karkhiyanv.
